When faced with life's challenges,
it is Important to Remember
that although Daniel was saved from the lions,
he was not saved from the Lion's Den.

Motherhood is not a hobby

"Motherhood is not a hobby, it's a calling.
You do not collect children
because you find them cuter than stamps.
It is not something to do if you can squeeze the time in.
It is what God gave you time for."
Elder Neal L. Anderson

This quote was amazing to me.  I think the world would have us believe that we are mothers after everything else is accomplished in our lives.  The world would tell us the careers, dreams, hopes, and wants are all more important than having children and raising them to be righteous sons and daughters of God.  The world would have us believe that mothers are lower than the dust of the earth.  That they don't have worth.  That they are ignorant and uneducated.  The world would have us never know what we are missing if we choose not to follow God's path and His way.
So today, sit back and realize who you are and what you stand for.  Take a breath and know that you are serving in His calling.  It can be one of the most difficult and discouraging jobs you will ever do.  It can also be one of the most amazing and uplifting things you will ever accomplish.
I worry constantly over whether I am doing it good enough.  I worry about the time that I must spend other places and the choices that I must make that can take me away from them just when they need me most.
It helps me to remember that this is a calling that He has given me.  He has not left me to do this one my own or without guidance.  He has given me what I need to do it well and teach them of Him.  May you each remember today what a wonderful opportunity you have to serve in your journey.  Whether you mother your own children, or those children who will come into your lives, you can and will make a difference.  You are amazing.  He loves you and He knows you, and He wants you to lead them home to Him.

  1. I loved that quote. However, I wish I could have "collected" more.

  2. Amazing post. :) Any doubts I had about my faith before I had children, were instantly erased once I got to look into their eyes. How could there NOT be a God?

  3. I too, LOVE that quote! And the lady who said it said some other great things in her same blog post as well. This post is now floating all over the internet on various blogs. I also quoted her today in my post, (only it is a different part of the same writing which I am not seeing posted all over the place - yet! lol).

PS I LOVE being a mom! IT is THE BEST job in the UNIVERSE!!! (I'm really going to miss it when they leave home and I have to take up or expand a less noble occupation).
