General Conference Highlights

My friend Stephanie from diapers and divinity has a conference meme up on her blog.  I wanted to participate to help myself remember all the good things about this past weekend.  She also has a contest going on if you really paid attention and want to answer all the questions.
General Conference Highlights, October 2011
1.  Who were your three favorite speakers?
Oh my, can I name them all???  I loved Sister Dalton, Elder Andersen, and Elder Uchtdorf
2.  Which talk spoke to you the most?
I loved Sister Dalton’s talk.  My favorite part was when she told the fathers that if their daughter does not come home from a date, Go and Get Her!  It made me realize that sometimes we have to choose to do what is best for our daughters even if it is a hard thing and they don't like it.
3.  What was your favorite Hymn and why did it move you?
I loved the children's choir the best.  They were amazing.  I would have to say that my favorite song was:  I thank thee dear Father in heaven above.  It was part of a medley they sung on Saturday afternoon.
4.  Which speaker was the best dressed?  (Come on, we can have a little fun.)
I thought Sister Dalton looked amazing!  Her dress was feminine and so pretty, yet also modest and beautiful, (Besides, it looked much better than a business suit!).
5.  Were there any topics that you felt like were repeated often?  Any conference “themes”?
I thought that many of the talks were on reading the Book of Mormon.  It is the same theme that my Stake Presidency spoke about in Stake Conference a month ago, so it was very noticeable to me.  I also think they spoke a lot about family and doing things together.
6.  Share a few of your favorite quotes from any of the talks (paraphrasing is fine).
Loved Sister Dalton's talk about daughters and when she said to "Go and get her".  It just really struck a cord with me.  I also loved the talk about doing family history and having the children and teens teach the adults how to do it!
7.  Name something(s) that made you smile or laugh during conference.
I loved President Monson's story of the chicken.  You can't help but chuckle when he starts telling stories.  We also laughed at Sister Dalton's talk when she said to go and get the daughters. My girls thought that was so funny!  (Until I told them that we would be doing that with them when they started dating!)
8.  Was there any evidence that your children paid attention?
Oh, my girls did great.  They had notebooks and they laughed at the prophet, and we talked about the scripture stories.  We all at lunch or "linner" at the dinner table and we talked about the talks after conference.  It was so enjoyable this year to have them participate!  I thought they were amazing!
9.  What doctrine did you learn as you listened to the choir(s) sing?
I remembered that we are all important and none of us are invisible as I heard I am a child of good.  I also loved Consider the lilies of the field and I loved the medley the children sang.  It reminded me that we are each loved and than Heavenly Father is mindful of us.
10.  Did the music enhance your General Conference experience? How?
Music always speaks to my spirit.  It prepares me for the talks, and helps me to listen with my heart as well as with my ears.  It brings the spirit into my heart so that I am already needed and wanting more.  I love the message.  Even the familiar sound new and beautiful when others sing them.
11.  What are some of your post-conference goals?
I want to pray more often, and be more conscious of having prayer with my husband.  I also want my prayers to mean more and to be more sincere.  I want to show my girls how to do family history and let them teach me.  Especially since they do know more about the computer than I do!  I want to remember how important each of us are to our Heavenly Father and watch my words and actions.  I also want to be more careful how I spend my time.  In addition, I want to participate in the conference talk of the week and really go over the messages throughout the next several months.
