Five Minute Friday - BRAVE

It is my favorite time of the week once again.  Fridays are always amazing.
Now, set your timer, clear your head, for five minutes of free writing without worrying about getting it right.
1. Write for 5 minutes flat – no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking.
2. Link back over at Lisa Jo's and invite others to join in.
3. And then absolutely, no ifs, ands or buts about it, you need to visit the person who linked up before you & encourage them in their comments.
OK, are you ready? Please give us your best five minutes on:::

Brave…

START

I am afraid of so many things.  I am afraid that things won't work out,  I am afraid of heights, I am afraid of what other people think.  I am afraid of making mistakes and not being good enough.  I have never felt brave.
Once, when my oldest son was very small, we were visiting my sister on the Base at Fort Huachuca AZ.  My son was outside playing in the yard and we were in the house.  Suddenly, we heard a terrifying scream coming from the street.  I leaped from the chair and dashed out the door.  My son was running as fast as his little legs would carry him right into the front yard with the dog right behind him.  The people across the street we yelling at the dog and trying to get it to go home.  I ran right between my son and the dog (which was a big german shepherd) waving my arms and trying to get the dog to not bite my son.
Afterwards, I was shaking.  I have always been afraid of dogs, especially since I have been bit four different times, but for that one moment, when I felt my small son was in danger, I rushed right into the jaws of one of the things I feared most.
I have learned that being brave, doesn't mean you are not afraid.  It simply means that you act in spite of your fears.  It means that you realize there are things more important than your fears.  I think it means you choose to do the right thing even if it might hurt.
I am learning that I can be brave, even when I don't feel brave.

Now it's your turn, what can you write about being brave in just five, short minutes.  Don't forget to link up your own post over at Lisa Jo's.

  1. Great job! I loved this line: "It simply means that you act in spite of your fears. It means that you realize there are things more important than your fears."

  2. Hi Patricia. Just stopped over after you commented on my post. We have the same word for this year. I posted about naming my years here: http://melinrn.blogspot.com/2013/02/the-naming-of-time-this-yeartrust.html

And I love that line too: "there are things more important than your fears". What a great way to say it.

  3. SO true. Being brave or courageous doesn't mean that we don't feel fear...It means we act regardless of the fear. Great post. As always! Love ya.
