When faced with life's challenges,
it is Important to Remember
that although Daniel was saved from the lions,
he was not saved from the Lion's Den.

I am trying something a little different today and linking up with Mama Kat's writing prompts for this week.  This one was to write a poem about hope.  Believe it or not, it is a lot harder to write from a prompt as opposed to writing what I feel at the moment.

by Patricia A Pitterle

In this life that I am living
Things don’t always work out
Quite the way I planned.
Sometimes, it is as simple
As a choice gone wrong.
Often, it can be
More complicated than that.
Other people get involved,
I get my feelings hurt.
Trials happen,
Tears fall,
Disaster beckons
and despair leers over my shoulder
like the neighborhood bully
from my childhood.
But, through it all,
A glimmer of hope
Anchors me to the people
Most important
In my life.
With grasping tentacles,
Hope clings tightly
To those that I love.
Hope for the future,
Hope for the present,
Hope for love lost
And love found.
Hope gives me the courage
To keep trying
No matter how rough
The road I am traveling on
May be.
Hope gives me the confidence
To continue on
Into the twilight
Of tomorrow’s dreams.

  1. Hey, I think you have talent. Nicely done. A good memory. Hope. But I did laugh that the bully memory is still there. Those memories seem to linger for all of us.

  2. This is beautiful... And so true. How important it is to be able to hope? Well, I don't think I'd be here without it! Thank you for sharing :)

  3. BEATIFUL poem!! I love your images..."With grasping tentacles,
    Hope clings tightly
    To those that I love"
You go girl! I just tried my first Mama Kat writers prompt today. This is fun:)

  4. Beautiful! Truly.

Stopping by from Mama Kat's. Welcome to the madness.

I wrote a poem about hope today too.

  5. This may have been harder than writing what you wanted at the moment, but it paid off! This is a beautiful poem!

  6. You did wonderfully! And I love this meme because it does force you to try different things and work at your writing. And I love seeing how different everyone approaches the same prompt.

  7. what a beautiful poem! Im so glad you linked up with it!

  8. Wow! This is really great and perfectly portrays that desperate feeling as we hold on the people we know we can depend on. Nicely done!

  9. Nice poem, good job! Hope certainly is what keeps us all going.
